Bill passed for Emancipation Act

Bill passed for the Emancipation Act, to take effect in August 1834, legally frees enslaved people in the British Caribbean but with a six year apprenticeship period. Twenty million pounds sterling is voted as compensation to slave owners. William Wilberforce dies on 29 July, three days after the bill to emancipate enslaved people is passed.
