The Golliwog

The golliwog is created by Florence Kate Upton in her 1895 children’s book, “The Adventures of Two Dutch Dolls and a Golliwog“. It is also known for its appearance in the Noddy books by Enid Blyton. The debate about whether the golliwog is a racist stereotype that domesticates prejudice, or simply a child’s nursery character, has been raging since the 1950s.
