The sea mappe of Portugal wherein are situated the most famous mart towne of Lisbone & St Vues with their rivers and coastes as they show when you saiell up and downe them
This map was published in London in 1588. It is a chart from Anthony Ashley’s English edition of ‘The Mariners Mirrour’. Lord Howard of Effingham ordered Waghenaer’s sea atlas, ‘De Spieghel der Zeevaerdt’, to be translated. It was so popular that ‘waggoner’ became the English term for a book of charts.
